If you've read through much of this site, you can tell we are proud of the way we grow our produce and livestock. But just what does that mean for you, the person eating it?
Our cattle are raised on pasture and supplemented with hay when foraging isn't optimal (like in cases of snow cover). Our beef is what's considered "grass fed." So, what is the difference between grass-fed beef and commercially available beef?
Large commercial beef producers use a feedlot method of raising their cattle. This means the cattle are placed in crowded pens and fed grains (mostly corn) to fatten them up just before butchering time. It's the widest-spread way of producing beef for the U.S. market.
Grass-fed beef has been shown as a more nutritious beef product. There are a number of reports that show grass-fed beef products contain more concentrations of beta-carotene (which converts to essential Vitamin A in the body) and Vitamin E, and increased levels of essential fatty acids (the good kind). Grass-fed beef also tends to be lower in total fat, which acutally helps lower your levels of bad cholesterol.
And we honestly think our beef tastes better. Not only are our feeding and management practices different, but you'll get the meat directly from us - straight from our ranch in Peculiar, MO here in Cass County. It's not shipped from hundreds or thousands of miles away and, frankly, you know exactly where it's coming from. Can you say that about the beef you buy in the store? We sincerely believe that once you taste the difference you'll be hard pressed to return to buying beef in the grocery store.
